Food & Drink Labels

Practical label solutions for food and beverage packaging, from farm shops to industrial packing lines.

From the chilled line to the shop shelf

Condensation, freezer storage, wet packing areas, oils and changing packaging surfaces all influence the label construction. We discuss when and how the label is applied, not simply where the product ends up.

A wide range of packaging

We can discuss paper and film labels for preserves, honey, relish, dairy, chilled and frozen products, and drinks. The correct material and adhesive depend on the individual application.

Dairy, chilled and frozen packaging: details that matter

Our experience includes labels supplied to more than ten regional dairy businesses. Roll-fed labelling, condensation and temperature changes are specification questions, not afterthoughts.

Dairy bottles and labelling lines

Milk bottles packed and moved in plastic crates face rubbing and repeated handling. A suitable laminate, including 23-micron PP where appropriate, protects the printed surface. For cold or moist application we have worked with UPM Raflatac RH1 strong-permanent hot-melt adhesive; a PET release liner can improve reel stability in humid bottling environments. Each element must be tested as part of the complete specification.

Frozen fish and seafood

Chilled or frozen packs can be damp, cold or handled before frost has evaporated. Adhesives such as HERMA 62G and Avery S2045 may be candidates, depending on application temperature, packaging film and conditions. Always check current datasheets and trial the real substrate.

Preserves and farm-shop products

Colourful front labels can be printed in advance, with later thermal-transfer overprinting for changing batch details, ingredients, best-before dates or barcodes. This avoids new full-colour printing for every variable field.
